City of VALLEY FALLS to "smoke" sewer system
The City of Valley Falls is concerned about possible leaks in the city's sanitary sewer system. Leaks in the system can allow
large amounts of rain water to enter the city's wastewater system.
The City plans to conduct a smoke testing of the system on August 2 & 3, 2017 (weather permitting).
City Utilities Superintendent Paul Burghart has arranged to have the testing completed by the Kansas Rural Water Association, a
non-profit organization that provides assistance to cities and rural water districts.
Homeowners are advised that basement floor drains or any unused drains in homes or businesses should be filled with water on the
days that the smoking is scheduled. During the testing, workers will be walking through neighborhoods trying to detect any smoke
surfacing over sewer line routes or in homes and businesses. Anyone who notices any of the smoke in their home or business
during the testing should contact city hall.
The smoke which is used is harmless; people should not panic if they notice smoke -- just call City Hall at 785-945-6612.
